Delhi bypoll: Nervous AAP gets Arvind Kejriwal, HS Phoolka to

2017-04-16

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday campaigned in Rajouri Garden, the Assembly seat that goes to poll on April 9. The counting for this bypoll will take place on April 13. India.com visited Rajouri Garden as the AAP campaigned to get a sense of what the party and people think about the bypoll as well as the upcoming MCD Elections 2017. An elderly man sipping his tea says that although he has retired, he does not wish to contest the elections. A Blue turbaned man replies, ‘thik hai’. A little introduction with blue-turbaned man reveals that he is Principal Budh Ram who has recently won the Budhlada seat in the Punjab Assembly elections. Budh Ram is one of many MLAs who have been deployed by the Aam Aadmi Party to garner support for Harjeet Singh, party candidate for Rajouri Garden bypoll to be held on April 9. When I ask about his visit to the national capital during assembly bypoll campaign, Budh Ram says that he has come to return the favour done by Rajender Pal Gautam, MLA from the Seema Puri (SC) seat. He recalls that the Delhi MLA assisted him with 12 campaigners in his campaign trail. Although, he may justify his presence but a large no. of MLAs with an army of volunteers from Punjab is hinting towards the nervousness of the Aam Aadmi Party. Budh Ram is accompanied by his legislator brethren like Aman Arora, President of the Punjab women’s wing Prof. Baljinder Kaur and most importantly, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Legislative Assembly HS Phoolka. The electoral battle has turned into an issue of prestige for both parties, Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janta Party. Both parties, relying on Sikh voters in the constituency.
